Hitting fairways ...

Hitting the fairways in the right attire. What clothes to wear?

There are so many golf courses and people playing now that, for the most part, weekend golfers usually dress appropriately. When I see people on the course that obviously do not know how to dress it makes me wonder what made them intersted in golf in the first place. Come on people! Look, you certainly don't have to be rich to play golf. I play public courses and most are reasonable. The courses that are too expensive- I simply don't play. There are many excellent courses that have very reasonable green fees and the people act like they appreciate you business. They are happy to have you if you are wearing appropriate clothes.

Do not ever wear a tee shirt and tennis shoes to the golf course!!! I've seen young and old do this and it only reflects two things: 1) you're too lazy, cheap or stupid (that's three but you get my meaning) to go to any number of department stores where you can actually buy nice golf shirts made from one of the "dry fit'' materials (and for under $30.00). And,most courses won't let you on without wearing a golf shirt with a collar. If they do, it's not a course you want to play.

Summer time usually dictates wearing shorts and I highly recommend it. It is just too bloody hot, at lease in the middle of the country, to not wear shorts and you can pick them up in the same discount stores where you buy golf shirts. Finally, you have to wear golf shoes for a couple of reasons; One, you won't be able to support your swing if you feet are sliding around with tennis shoes and Second, todays golf shoes are more comfortable than the dress shoes you have in the closet. Now, golf shoes are not cheap but many golf stores have sales during the year, especially in the winter. You can pick up some really good bargins and golf shoes will usually last 3 years if you take care of them. Do not pick out a pair of golf shoes strickly on the looks. Golf shoes vary in fit just like every other shoe. You try them on at the shoes store so try the golf shoes on at the golf shop.

And finally, don't wear pull up dress socks or white socks. Just buy some golf socks where ever you buy your golf shoes. Follow these simple suggestions and your will look great with your buddies on Saturday.
